Hey all!

I'm selling some DJ equipment. I'd prefer to keep it to someone in the bay area so we don't have to deal with shipping, but I'm open.

I have a practically brand new pair of Pioneer CDJ-800s. I'm selling each for $400 or the pair for $750 or best offer. You can see my posting (w/pic) on craigslist at: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/ele/610988223.html

I'm also selling a Vestax PCV-275 3 channel mixer for $150. You can see that posting (w/pic) at: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/ele/610991214.html

Please respond to me via Tribe if you are interested! Thanks!

RENA JONES (Live)
www.renamusic.com

A multitalented composer, producer, audio engineer, sound designer, violinist, cellist, and vocalist, Rena Jones has been described as "the revered daughter of San Francisco's electronic music scene" -- OEM Radio.

Rena Jones' third and most recent release "Driftwood" (2006) on Native State Records; features all mid-tempo, glitch and chill out. The album weaves cello, violin, woodwinds, electronics and rhodes through unique instrumentation. "Driftwood" was given the honor of the sixth most essential album of 2006 on NPR Echoes Radio. She has also released several tracks with such reputable international labels as Iboga, Spun Records, Aleph Zero and Native State Records.

Rena Jones' live sets are a potent sonic session. She orchestrates her cello and violin over hand crafted beats melding the organic with the electronic. Her performance is a sophisticated example of the modern movement in electronic dance and ambient music.

DESERT DWELLERS (Live - Amani & Rara Avis)
www.desertdwellers.org
www.shamansdreammusic.com

Desert Dwellers is the dynamic collaboration between Amani, Treavor Moontribe and Rara Avis; the roots of this “virtual band" emerging from deep within the electronic music scene of the Southwest deserts. Because of their diverse musical backgrounds, it is impossible hold the Desert Dwellers to any one genre; their expression ranging from full-on dance tracks to deep-hypnotic ambient spaces and yoga-dub soundscapes. The Desert Dwellers have remixed artists such as Deep Forest, Jai Uttal, and Karsh Kale; their music appears on White Swan Records, Six Degrees, Native State, Bedrock, System Recordings, Ritual Sounds, and their own label Desert Trax.

Amani also began collaborating in the studio with the Shaman's Dream Music collective in 2005, working with Craig Kohland and Rara Avis on albums for Sounds True, as well as scoring original music for instructional yoga dvds on Yoga Tribe & Culture and Acacia Media. Shaman’s Dream has been an instrumental driving force in the yoga, healing and ecstatic dance scene of LA for over a decade. Their music has accompanied teachers such as Micheline Berry, Shiva Rea, Hemalayaa Behl, Desiree, Duncan Wong, Jiva Mukti Yoga School, and Matthew Cohen.

CHROMATONE (Live)
www.vaporvent.com

Chromatone is L. Hoffman, a San Francisco native who has been producing electronic music for well over a decade. Working as a professional audio consultant, producer, engineer, he is also doing mastering for many labels with a growing list of clients.

A local favorite in San Francisco, Chromatone has Surprised countless audiences around the globe, with his buoyant energy, brilliant beats, and positive vibes. Highlights include Surround Sound Live at Burning Man Festivals 2003 + 2005, and Boom Festivals Portugal 2004 + 2006, Full Moon Germany 2005 + 2006, ZOOM 2004 and Time Gate 2007 Switzerland, and many other appearances during a constant 2 year tour in Europe.

MORPHONIX (Live)
www.myspace.com/morphonix

Morphonix is L. Hoffman's new divination of music and should be heralded as a genre melting masterpiece. L. Hoffman (aka Chromatone) blends aspects from a wide spectrum of styles to manifest a captivating spirit journey, haunted by the serene voice of Irina Mikhailova. Luscious and dreamy atmospherics soar over a mountainous landscape of buoyant bass lines. Gargantuan grooves and playful percussions dance within majestic melodies and swirling psychedelics. Listeners will find themselves more enchanted with every play of this futuristic album. Produced in the magic vibe of both San Francisco and Ibiza. Cover art by Christine Web, painted in the studio of Robert Venosa.
EPSYLON

Brennan Murphey is known throughout the northwest for his prolific music production, uplifting live psytrance sets, and live flute and guitar work. He was the first performer on the west coast to publicly demonstrate an original implementation of the reacTIVision tangible user interface, whereby he mixes his songs using playing cards in front of a video camera. Originally from the high desert town of Taos, New Mexico, he has preformed his original music for energetic crowds alongside the likes of Osiris Indriya, Sirius Isness, and Rabbit in the Moon throughout the western United States. Epsylon is also a successful promoter and experienced professional music educator, heading up Spun Academy's music production program for over a year before recently founding his own Phoenix Fire Sound School in Portland. He has helped many aspiring producers achieve expertise in the crafts of sound. In December of 2007, Epsylon teamed up with Osiris Indriya to form the project "Penticle". Penticle is currently working on its first album entitled "Keys to Shyamballah", scheduled for release in early 2008.

Loki says of himself...

After spending several magical years in the industrial rave scene (warehouse spaceships) in Pittsburgh, PA during the middle to late 90's and after promoting about 20 raves during that same incredible mystical time period, I began my expedition as a dj. Actually, it wasn't that glorious, it happened by accident. A friend of mine left on vacation for a few weeks and asked if I would do him a favor and babysit his gear. I promptly agreed and his turntables and mixer sat in my basement for 2 days before I even touched them. I then decided I was going to "play" with them, so I went to a "new" little record store in Pittsburgh called Milk and bought my first tracks on vinyl. I went looking for some deep house and walked out with an arm full of Danny Tenaglia style tribal. After about 48 hours of nonstop trainwrecking I decided it was time to eat and get some sleep. I was straight up hooked on the vinyl crack.

Now seven years later, I am back to my east coast roots spinning melodic, chunky, dirty, minimal techno. I would not dare deny my west coast family a style that suits their tastes as well, so look out for new dubstep mixes with special mc work by Pete Clark. I want to thank anyone who ever danced while I played, you will never know how precious those moments are to me and I look forward to enjoying many more moments where we all meet on higher plane and the world slips away.
Her goal is create safe spaces at event where people can relax, recover, and regroup as needed. For Satya, music ought to be a transcendental experience that brings new awareness to ourselves, our emotional and spiritual selves, and those around us.

psyRen is a fairly new psychedelic trance producer who has been learning about synthesizers and DAW software for 4 years. He strives to create unique and complex audio bubbles of rhythmic math that take your sense of sound into a joyous overload while simultaneously giving your aura a tune-up maintenance and letting your brain's foundation know that its time to increase the range of audible frequency in yourself and your next of kin. You can expect to hear new songs produced by psyRen for years and years to come. Some of the things that have influenced him include: yoga, eastern philosophy, Robert Anton Wilson, Shpongle, Autechre, oCeLoT, the Nommos, the fact that everything you hear are vibrations of energy traveling through a medium and the fact that everything you see is light projected into your brain.

Putting Phoenix on the Breakbeat Map!

Hi wonderful music lovers! I'm Ben, and I love breaks.

We just started a new weekly breaks night in the Phoenix, AZ area. This Tuesday (02/27) will be our second night. We tripled the bar's income on our first night 2 weeks ago, and we plan on keeping that happening.

If any of you kind folks are in the Phoenix Metro area (Tempe, near ASU) on a Tuesday, please drop in and say hello. If you want to spin some breaks, let me know and we'll sort out the details. Right now we aren't getting paid (other than in what we can drink), but when we prove ourselves (and the bar starts making decent money) we'll have some cash to play with.

So yeah, if you or your friends are coming through Phoenix on a Tuesday, shoot me a line!

Details:
The Salacious Beat Slingers present:
"A Case of the Tuesdays"
Every Tuesday at Fat Tuesday
680 S. Mill Ave
Tempe, AZ 85281
9pm-close (last call is at ~1:30 in AZ)
21+
No Cover
$2 drinks all night long (Frozen Daquiris, domestic bottles, well drinks)

Question for production in Reason...

I don't know if this is a good question for this tribe, but I'm sure someone in here might be able to help.

In Reason when you adjust the tempo, the tone does not change, which makes me think that there would be specific bpm's that you should write in, in order to have a true tone.

For example. If I write two tracks, both in the key of C, but one track is at 115 bpm, and one is in 114 bpm, the tones will not mach completely when they are mixed together.

BFM004 Presents: REKTCHORDZ – ‘Bass Pressure’ w/ WAVEWHORE Remix

BREAKS FM PRESENTS:

Rektchordz - A. “Bass Pressure”
Rektchordz - AA.“Bass Pressure” (Wavewhore Remix)

Release Date: OCTOBER 2006

BFM004. Distributed by Z Audio.

Pioneering and four-time award winning breakbeat radio station BreaksFM (www.breaksfm.com) proudly presents: Rektchordz – “Bass Pressure”

Side A – Bass Pressure. Rektchordz returns again to BreaksFM with this beast of a tune. Following on from “Lojack” (BFM001 – SOLD OUT!) and his remix of Cereal Killaz “Reality” (BFM003 - in the shops now!). Rektchordz’ reputation has been growing steadily since the start of the year, both on his own and alongside his brother (D-Ranged) as part of the excellent IF:IM. With releases on Downbeat, Trans:verse, Bombtraxx as well as BreaksFM, Rektchordz has been a pretty busy this year and he doesn’t look like stopping for a rest any time soon! Bass Pressure may have been named after the one of the massive breaks events in Spain and with good reason! This is dirty festival bassline music. This is music for people who want to have it large. Dirty stomping basslines and a beat so militant it will probably be considered dangerous to the fabric of society as we know it, form the core of this tune. Throw in some especially paranoid samples and you have a cocktail so potent it’s sure to get any raving going crazy.

Side AA – Wavewhore Remix. Based in Manhattan and the driving force behind many of the best breakbeat events in New York, Wavewhore’s reputation has been growing steadily since his first release on Electrofly titled “Breakin’ the Law”. Since then, he’s released “Funk Pill” featuring vocals from Bex Riley on the Breakspoll award winning Broke imprint and is due to drop another bomb titled “This Is How It Should Be Done” again through those cheeky Broke boys. In addition, his Monday evening show on BreaksFM (‘The Audio Tactics Sessions’) has been building quite the audience. When BreaksFM approached him for a remix we expected something “funky”, but what we didn’t expect was the sheer size of this remix. This is a HUGE REMIX! Sounding like the Breakfasterz at their finest, Wavewhore updates the original with extra synths and smoothes down the edges. This remix has been getting plays all the way across the breakbeat scene, from funky to bassline producers alike.

"I f*cking love this tune... really good stuff mate" - Jezbot of The Autobots

"Just gave this a listen - It sounds real fat and I'm burning it for the next gig!" - Dave Aquasky

Whether it be mid-tempo, glitched, full on, westcoast style, etc...

It seems this style needs a little help in the connection department.

sound source/ recorder

I am looking for a non-iPod that I can load self-made tracks to be used as a sound source in conjunction with live gear...

Traditionally, I would just go with an MD player/recorder... however, I will be moving overseas and traveling quite a bit this next year and would like to bring music with me without bringing boxes full of cds... (not to mention the occasional DJ opportunities)

So, what I am looking for is:
a portable device, under $300
(user) replaceable battery
line-in recording (even its not the greatest, though better than mono)
a friendly playlist (for jumping around tracks live - "now where is that glitched flute track..?")
can handle WAV and OGG
easy transfer ov files (would prefer it to register as a drive unless there is some sweet software I haven't encountered yet)
decent storage, like 20G

I have been checking out the iAudio X5L... it only has mono line in... and you need a dock to plug into... close to what I am looking for... and..... Is there something better?

FunkyCozy Halloween SF, Sat, Oct 29th w Scarlett Etienne - Free!

San Francisco’s best Halloween party is back for another year of madness. This year, we’re kicking it up another notch and bringing New York based Scarlett Etienne in on the fun!

As usual, no cover, and maybe we won’t kick you out if you’re not in costume, but what fun would that be? Get yourself an outfit and join the party. Don’t be that guy or girl who says “Damn, I wish I had dressed up.” Be the one who says, “Damn! I got the best outfit here!” Let’s see some crazy costumes!!

So, who is Scarlett Etienne? If you haven’t heard of Scarlett by now, then you don’t know what you’ve been missing. She’s toured all over the world, from Asia to Ibiza to all over the United States, while calling New York home. When we heard Scarlett would be in town, we jumped at the chance to bring her to FunkyCozy, and we know you’ll be as excited as we are by the time Saturday rolls around.

From her website:

Diversity is the heart of Scarlett’s sound. Her style can be described as electro-progressive with a funky and melodic edge. At only 23 years of age, Scarlett has acquired a unique, cultured appreciation and understanding of dance music and continues to make her impact on the underground house scene on a global level. While not working hard on the road, she is working diligently at home in her Pro-Tools project studio, continuing her quest to find expression through innovative new sounds.

For you curious peeps, you can listen to a set of Scarlett’s right here and find more information about her on her website at http://www.scarlettetienne.com

WHO: Scarlett Etienne and the Funky Cozy Crew (Sinukus, Jonathan Beech, and Tim McCormack)

WHEN: Saturday, October 29, 2005 from 9pm to 2am

WHERE: Anu Bar, 43 Sixth St.

Hey all,

I've decided to release the latest CD of my music project Revolution Void for free noncommercial distribution (using a Creative Commons license of course).

The CD is kind of a mix between Herbie Hancock and the Chemical Bros. - a blend of breakbeats and jazz improvisation. The disc features guest performances by Matt Garrison (bassist for Herbie Hancock) and Seamus Blake (Mingus Big Band), among others.

To stream or download the disc, click here: http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-details-db.php?collection=opensource_audio&collectionid=revoid_2004_04_04.flac16

For more info about Revolution Void, click here: www.revolutionvoid.com

Thanks for listening!

Freekin’ The Ultra’- Bazznectar CD Release partay- NYC Oct 7th

Freek Factory in unholy conjunction with Disorient invites all y’all bass loving freekz to the NYC subterranean party of the season. Join us in celebrating the much anticipated release of Lorin(bazznectar)’s double dose cd Mesmerizing The Ultra on Amorphous Records.

The new music is deep; throbbing; significant:

Glitched out, smacked up bass bombs, melodic psychedelic swamp ballads for the sub-reptilian brain, phat chuggers and nasty churners, full of subversive lyrical content and calls for human dignity. Music to come go chant down Babylon with your booty wagging in syncopated assent.

If you haven’t heard any of Lorin’s new material then come down and taste the nectar. If you have already been bathing in it then you know the deal. Either way we will see you there, yes?

Don’t sleep.

From 10pm-6am on the night of October 7th we are occupying the premises at 251 W. 30th st (formerly known as Downtime), in the pulsing heart of midtown Manhattan for an unrepentant full throttled bass orgy. You feeling that? Join us as we transform the semi-raw space into a lascivious den of outerworldly delights.

Step inside: We’ve got wonder and we’ve got mayhem in equal measure; whirling things and things that slither; inflatable devices of dubious intent; pirates, dandy’s and trannies; light projecting machines; dark vixens and pimped out maidens writhing atop woofers; scantily clad tiggrrrs fearlessly scuttling about the ceiling; spirit creatures of all description wearing flesh, dense folds of undulating human mass throbbing in ecstatic unison to the fever of the music: Freekin’ The Ultra, know what I’m saying?

Now Sequoia’s going to make things beautiful like she always does. Satsi’s coming all the way east to make things shimmer and glow. Freek Factory Dancers be properly instigating delightful madness. and Disorient is going to touch everything with their glam-tech sensibility and fill the dark corners with things that go blink in the night.

Lorin promises me that he’ll put on his swamp suit and hit us with the rhythm stick. BB.

Don’t let me forget to mention that we’ve got 3 rooms of top shelf talent lined up for your buggin’ pleasure:

The All Good Funk Alliance properly handling your Nu-Funk needs. D.C. got it going on; Rhythmystic wompwompin’ on the funky raggafied tip; Sunder rippin’ things up on turntables and knocking down the one’s and two’s, tight as tight is tight; Spyro’s next level progressive Live PA; Wavewhore and Sean Infinitee reppin for the Nu-Skool hedz; The Bass and Orion bringing that deep house vibe to get things lubricated; AtoMikDog, Zapper, and the Drop In Posse with European style Techno and Breakbeats all night on Live PA in the downstairs lounge; JP001 going to start things right on the funky tip: and I am going to bring it all home with a late night journey to a deep place we’ll call tomorrow when we get there.

Are you down for the ride?

Come celebrate life, Lorin, love, whatever. Don’t matter, let’s just freek it beautiful, yes.

Yes.

Presale tix available now: www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2255
first 100 tix $15. $20 Thereafter and a bit more at the door.

With the two largest live looping events scheduled in history for this summer in Zurich Switzerland and Santa Cruz, California I think it is time to have a tribe that specifically addresses the phenomenae ofI LIVE LOOPING. A tribe for all the people who love using either
software or hardware based to perform in public.

Not intended to compete with this tribe (or any tribe)
we will discuss aesthetic aspects of performing live
with looping gear; share stories of our origins, aspirations, frustrations, gear lust, gear tragedies, etc.

Come join if this sounds interesting:

Friday, June 3rd, Porter Tinsley along with Wolfie, Octopus, Blue and the Flametamers are going to be performing at Cane's and the wavehouse in Mission Beach. As usual, we are going to decorate the stage. The theme is a beach party, so put on your shorts, bikini or how ever you feel comfortable expressing yourself and let's have a giant orgasmic reunion of the San Diego and Los Angeles burners on the beach.

We will start at 9-2 and fire dancing on the beach after wards. Please spread the words as we have quite a few LA burners coming down for this and it would be nice to unite the two tribes.

If you have nay questions or would like to help with ideas, set up and decorate contact me off list chrisdna@yahoo.com or visit http://www.blueinsomnia.com.

Love and peace,

M-Audio FireWire Audiophile

Anyone have any experience using M-Audio's Audiophile FireWire controller interface?

I finally got off my duff and bought a copy of Abelton Live v4.0 to use with my Dell Latitude D800. The Audiophile appears to be a good and inexpensive solution for my interface needs -- particularly, external D/A conversion and analog sampling (the Dell notebooks suffer from a lot of interference with the onboard converters, I've experienced), and hooking up a MIDI keyboard. I may even try plugging in my XONE:92 mixer's MIDI output into it as well...

Your suggestions / feedback / tips would be appreciated...

Hi everybody-

I have a little problem I hope someone can help me with. I wanted to know the fastest way to

load a CD
find *just* the sample I want to use from it
select it.
cut it
and save a sample that I can load into the Simpler.

What is the quickest, easiest way to do this? It seems like there would be a little app on the internet that would do this by now. (By the way, my main audio app is Ableton Live, so if anyone knows how to do it with Live, that'd be extra points).

Ahoy breaks captains....

Anyone here have latency problems with the korg micro control, or any other USB midi device? I recently got this keyboard, its hooked up to my laptop (PC, running Cubase & Abelton), problem is I have about 1 second of lag....

On an additional note, can you change the buffer size in PC?
Champagne Jam (2004)

"An epic 23 minute mash-up-mix by San Francisco-based Audiosports - under the controls of designer and musician Alberto Forero. Utilising over a hundred samples, featuring everyone from Fela to Mazzy Star, Stereolab to Doug E. Fresh, Alberto has created a steadily progressive mix of downhouse club noodling to indie anthem reworkings. In the best possible way, this sounds like the first ever Indie-Workout track. Alberto would love to hear your thoughts, so check out his site too, and go see him play in San Francisco"

URLS for free beats/breaks/drum samples

I just discovered this tribe this evening, which is synchronistic because I was just at an internet cafe trying to find some quicky
funk drum beats to fuck up in Live.

Why don't we start a long thread whereevery body posts the best free resources (or cheap) resources they've stumbled onto to download breaks/beats/and/or drum and percussion samples.

I, by the way, have a single CD that is full of really well organized individual drum hits that I've been gathering from friends CD and sampler collections/free resources on the web.

It is very heavy on electronic sounds but there are some very good drumset and percussion samples as well.

It took me dozens and dozens of hours to put this thing together and it takes time to dupe and put things in the mail so I charge a very nominal fee of $10 if anyone is interested.

I've also spent my whole life as a professional studio and touring drummer/hand percussionist/single line percussionist/found sound artist so I have been very picky about what sounds I"ve added.

Just e-mail me if you are interested.

yours,  Rick Walker (aka L()()p.p()()L)

i make mostly house and dance music, with some occassional breaks and dub elements (been listening to a huge amount of dub recently)

hello this is DJ monk e from WARP sights and sounds.
we are a group of forward thinking visual and sound artists. we are in the process of securing gigs for the spring and summer and would like to bring in new talent to the lineups. We do clubs and outdoor events in the dc/baltimore metropolitan area. although our sytles are varied within the crew the one thing that brings us together is our passion for forward thinking. we cover many genres, the only one that we exclude is trance/psytrance. our preferences include intelligent dnb, breaks, trip hop, funky house, down tempo.
ability to mix genres is a plus. cookie cutter record players need not apply ( you know who you are, or you know it when you hear it ) please contact me directly for address to submit demos
